Diane Ross, Furniture Maker
Willow Creek, MT
Diane Ross has been designing custom western furniture for nearly 30 years. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and books and represented by galleries from Wyoming to Italy. Today, she lives and works on a beautiful ranch that borders the Jefferson River, right outside Willow Creek, Montana.
Diane grew up in the West, spending her time climbing trees and catching snakes. Early on she found she had a knack for digging deep into willow patches. When she began gathering wood for her furniture, her natural love of those hidden wild places both inspired her art and provided the raw material for it.
From the faded red of old barns to the dusty ochre of coyote willows, Diane’s close attention to the details of the western landscape give a sense of breathing room to her pieces. Many of her intricate willow patterns have been inspired by northern plains Native American bead work designs and built with wood reclaimed from old cabins or hand cut from mountain forests.

Dear Ms. Ross
I was leafing through a copy of Mountain Living Magazine at a news stand simply because the cover photo had grabbed my attention so much that I just had to find out who was responsible for the birch tree bed on the cover.
My wife and I are in the process of building a cottage on a lake in Western Québec and the birch bed you built for Cindy Rinfret would be fantastic in our master bedroom. This cottage will be our ‘retirement home’ and I would like to have your birch bed built for us.
We would love to have you build a ‘birch bed’ just like that for us but the shipping might be simply be to expensive. We are looking at having a ‘king size’ bed built and I was going to try and find someone who could build one localy. Could you possibly tell me what price range I can expect to pay for this type of custom built bed. We usually dont have custom furniture built for us and it would be a great help to know (aproximatly) what I can expect to pay. Again, congratulation on your fantastic work and I thank you in advance for any help you can give us.
Sincerly yours

Hello Jacques,
I am so happy that you love my bed-I have enjoyed figuring out all of the
details that go into a bed of that size and complexity, and have developed
a design that is unique and very sturdy. It would be perfect in your cabin
on a lake-how lovely that sounds.
I would love to build a tree bed for you, so lets figure out how to get it
built and shipped to Quebec.
The king sized bed sells for $15,000.US I am offering a discount of 15%
if you order before the end of November. That gives me time to gather
wood before the snow-usually.
You will need to chose the fabric for your headboard and have it shipped
to me so that we can have the headboard upholstered.
I will check on shipping costs to you-I will need your zip code or postal
information to do this. Can you send me the information tomorrow so I can
begin searching for a good deal for you?
Im looking forward to creating a bed for your wonderful retirement cabin.
Best Regards,
Diane Ross
